Distance: Three miles

Start time: 2:21PM

End time: 2:49PM

Total time: 28 minutes

Weather: 72 degrees, sunny and bright, a little breeze

Today I decided to run at The Nick, a sports field in Wolfeboro, NH. I figured that running on the track would be a nice change from my usual route. I also wanted to feel out running three miles, as opposed to my normal two. It went so well! It was so nice running on a flat surface that wasn’t pavement. The track floor has a nice bounce to it that dirt and pavement just don’t give me. Plus, not having to go uphill made this run so peaceful! I kept a strong pace the whole way through and I was able to keep track of my exact distance. And the weather was gorgeous! There were some children playing in the playground nearby, which provided a nice soundtrack along with the whistling birds from the woods. The run just made me feel really good about life. I’ll have to go to The Nick more often!

Total time: 24 minutes

Weather: 67 degrees, cloudy, cold, and rainy

My best time yet! I have my brother Benny to thank for this because he joined me on my run today, and I’m sure that his long legs and track and field experience pushed me a bit. The same thing happened last week when I ran with my father. I should try to run with other people more often. Though it was a bit chilly out, the rain felt great and the run was nice. Maybe I can convince Benny to do the 5K with me…

End time: 6:45ishPM

Total time: I forgot to check the exact start and end times

Weather: 65 degrees, cloudy and rainy

My poppa joined me on my run today! He’s about 6’1” so his stride was a bit longer than mine, which made me pick up the pace a bit. Though it was pouring rain, it was nice having a running partner to push me a little harder than if I was running alone. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to time this run, so I don’t have any actual evidence that the run was faster. Then again, it was nice keeping it a mystery. This was a really refreshing run. Plus, no more blister. Suck it. But not really.

Distance: About four miles

Start time: 2:30PM

End time: 4:something PM

Total time: The perfect amount of time

Weather: 61 degrees, slightly cloudy

Just wanted to add this to the record! A couple hours after my run today, my cousin texted me about going on a hike. The rain had stopped so I figured why not! We had been trying to plan a time to hike Mt. Major for the past week and she’s leaving for South Carolina soon, so we jumped on the opportunity. Mt. Major is located in Alton, NH and it’s a beautiful, moderate hike with lots of brooks, rocks, and (in today’s case) some muddy paths. We went up the Brook Trail and went down the Boulder Loop Trail. The view was spectacular, reminding us how gorgeous Lake Winnipesaukee actually is. Made me love New Hampshire all over again.

Today was a good day for outdoor activity.

Running Log, Part 7

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

It was a solid run, despite the fact that it start raining and a small blister formed on my right foot. The rain was refreshing, though. No complaints. Still looking for a 5K to do this summer.

"We praise people for being “naturally” smart, too, “naturally” athletic, and etc. But studies..."

“We praise people for being “naturally” smart, too, “naturally” athletic, and etc. But studies continue to show, as they have for some time now, that it is generally healthier to praise schoolchildren for being hardworking, than for being naturally gifted. We know now that to emphasize a child’s inherent ability places pressure on that child to continue to be accidentally talented, which is something that is hard for anyone to control. When the children who are applauded for their natural skills fail, they are shown to take the failure very personally. After all, the process of their success has always seemed mysterious and basic and inseparable from the rest of their identity, so it must be they who are failing as whole people. When students are instead complimented and rewarded for their effort and improvement, they tend to not be so hard on themselves. When they fail, they reason, “Well, I’ll work harder next time.” They learn that they are capable of success, rather than constantly automatically deserving of it, and they learn simultaneously that they are bigger and more complex than their individual successes or failures.”

- Kate of Eat the Damn Cake, The Stupidity of “Natural” Beauty (x)

blua:
